AKD Softwoods is a fully integrated plantation forestry and timber processing company producing a wide range of value-added pine products.
AKD is 100 per cent Australian-owned and employs over 240 Australians across the country. The company has several manufacturing sites strategically located to give good access to our sawlog resources in the Otways, Ballarat and southeast regions of Victoria.
The primary manufacturing site is based in Colac –one of Victoria’s most important sustainable timber production regions. AKD Softwoods continues to invest in leading edge laser scanning and optimisation technology to create precision products tailored to meet discerning customer demand.
AKD Softwoods grows pinus radiate over 6,000 hectares. We apply intensive management regimes to deliver quality products and to ensure sustainable forest management.
Our products, each with a range of size and grade, include sawlog, veneer log, roundwood and wood chip.
AKD Softwoods:
The AKD Sales and Dispatch team are located within the Colac manufacturing site to ensure a firm linkage between production and our markets. Production plans are based on daily market feedback and are designed to meet specific order requirements, and customers receive up-to-the-minute information on product availability.
Twenty semi-trailer loads per day are dispatched primarily to SE Aust capital cities and well as major regional centres throughout SE Australia. Product is transported by a combination of AKD trucks as well as local and interstate road transport contractors

- Establish plantations and manage forests
- Are a joint venture partner in a woodchip export facility (Geelong)
- Have two facilities (Colac and Heywood) for treatment of pine posts, poles and building timber including the termi-blue, ecowood-dry and losp-clear brands.
- Have two sawmills (Colac and Irrewarra) incorporating the latest log processing technology,
- Have a wood processing plant (Colac) along with an engineered wood products division (Colac) incorporating finger jointing and laminating facilities.
- Operate a pallet making and component manufacturing operation in Geelong.
