As a Fire Protection Officer in the forest and wood products sector, you'll contribute to the environment by producing one of the world's most sustainable and environmentally friendly materials.

You'll be responsible for developing and managing fire programs. Depending on your exact role, you could be engaged in all the activities of fire control, including; ensuring preparedness, fire prevention, detection and suppression and fire management.

Role

Roles will vary according to the position, however your working day could include:

• Using prescribed burns and other strategies to minimise fire risk


• Monitoring and controlling accidental wildfires


• Managing firefighting operations


• Liaising with local landholders, government and other stakeholders


• Writing reports and presentations.

You’ll be able to work long hours and consecutive days, if and when required.
A high level of understanding and commitment to occupational health and safety is essential.

Qualifications

Typically fire protection jobs require a certificate II or III qualification which usually requires a combination of on the job and off the job training.
